Tom Felton Reflects on Chadwick Boseman, ‘Harry Potter’ Fandom, and a Fluffy Chinchilla
Actor Tom felton recounted a physical on-set experience with the late Chadwick Boseman and shared insights into the enduring fascination with his Harry Potter character, Draco Malfoy, in a recent Guardian Q&A. Felton described Boseman’s intense commitment too his role, recalling a scene where Boseman, as T’Challa, “delightfully beat the shit out of me,” throwing him into a car with such ferocity that minimal acting was required.he likened Boseman’s change to that of Andy Serkis while filming Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The conversation also touched on the devoted Harry Potter fanbase, with Felton acknowledging the extensive fan fiction surrounding his character, including popular pairings like “Dramione” (Draco and Hermione) and “Drarry” (Draco and Harry). While maintaining respect for the original author and adaptations,Felton admitted to exploring the “rabbit hole” of fan theories regarding Draco Malfoy’s potential for redemption during the Battle of Hogwarts. he noted his brother once used a “Drarry” drawing as his computer screensaver.
Beyond his iconic role, Felton reminisced about a childhood pet, a chinchilla named Stanley, describing him as “the fluffiest thing I’d ever stroked.” He recalled his father, not typically an animal lover, building a large cage for Stanley, despite living in a small house, and a single, memorable bite.
Felton’s new film, Fackham Hill, is set to release in cinemas on December 12th.
