TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Victory Center announced today it has raised $185,000 to support local cancer care services through its annual “Over the Edge for Victory” fundraiser. Participants braved challenging conditions – including 40 mph wind gusts on Friday – to rappel 225 feet down a building after each raising a minimum of $1,000.
The funds will directly benefit individuals adn families in the Toledo area impacted by cancer, providing crucial resources like oncology massage, wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy-related hair loss, facials, counseling, and complete supportive care programs. The Victory Center’s work aims to ease the burdens faced by cancer patients and thier loved ones, offering comfort and hope throughout their journey.
“Not even Friday’s 40mph wind gusts could slow us down,” said Dianne Barndt, Executive Director at The Victory Center. “Each of our participants could not be deterred. Their courage - both in fundraising and in taking on the physical challenge of rappelling or climbing – will directly impact countless lives in our community,bringing comfort,healing,and hope when it’s needed most.”
UToledo health’s Dr. natalie Rizk lead all individual fundraisers with $5,850 raised, while TEAL Team one was the top fundraising team, collecting an impressive $20,593. DJ Yark of Yark Automotive also made a important contribution, raising $15,595 individually.
