Colorado-based Radia inc. has developed a solution: Windrunner, a purpose-built aircraft designed to be ⁤the world’s largest cargo plane. This “titan of the ‍heavens” is specifically engineered to transport wind‌ turbine blades and other large components efficiently and affordably. ‍

The Windrunner’s capacity is comparable to the proposed “Flying ⁣Whale” airship – a massive 200-meter long vehicle capable of carrying​ 60 tons of‌ cargo. But‍ unlike‍ airships, the Windrunner boasts notable ‌specifications: a length of⁤ 108 ⁤meters ​and a wingspan of 80 meters, dwarfing even the legendary Antonov AN-225, previously the world’s largest aircraft. Crucially, the Windrunner is ​designed to land on runways as short as 1800 meters, opening⁣ up ‌access ‍to a‍ far wider range of potential wind farm locations.

Testing is slated to begin in 2026, with full service expected in 2027.
