Tigard Barbers Advance to American Legion World Series Semifinals
SHELBY, N.C. – Teh Tigard Barbers, a baseball team sponsored by Tigard American Legion Post 158, achieved a historic run this summer, culminating in a semifinal appearance at the American Legion World Series in Shelby, North Carolina. The team’s success marks a high point for the program, celebrating its centennial year, and showcases the talent emerging from high schools across the region.
The Barbers secured their place in the national tournament after winning both the Oregon state championship – their second title in as many years, having also won in 2023 – and the regional tournament in Montana. This regional victory was a first for the program, earning them one of only eight spots in the prestigious World Series.
The team finished the season with an remarkable 46-6 record, winning several games in the World Series before being eliminated in the semifinal round. The Barbers roster boasts players from Tigard, LaSalle, Jesuit, Sunset, Scappoose, Aloha, Ridgeview, Sherwood, and Ida B. Wells high schools.
Notably, sixteen of the 21 players on the team are committed to playing baseball at the collegiate level, with nine continuing their careers at Division I universities.
“This has been an incredible season for these young men,” said head coach joe Duran, who recently completed his 15th year leading the Barbers. “Their dedication and teamwork have taken them to new heights.”
Tigard American Legion Post 158 also sponsors three additional baseball teams: the Hillsdale merchants, Tigard Clippers, and Everett Street Mechanics. American Legion baseball, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, has provided a platform for over 10 million players over the past century.
