Meghan Markle’s Father Undergoes Leg Amputation Following Health Emergency
Thomas Markle Sr., 81, father of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has undergone a life-saving leg amputation after a serious health issue, his son Thomas Jr. has revealed. The surgery,a three-hour procedure performed on Wednesday in the Philippines where Mr. Markle relocated earlier this year, involved the removal of his left foot and lower leg.
According to Thomas Jr., a circulation problem caused the limb to turn blue and then black, necessitating immediate intervention. “My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,” he told the Daily Mail. “There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death.”
Doctors were concerned about the potential for infection, including sepsis or gangrene, with one physician stating the next two to three days are critical. “The flesh was black and dying,” Thomas Jr. explained. “It was either ’we have to operate now and remove the leg or he may die. It was a life-threatening situation.'”
Mr. Markle, a former television lighting director, has a strained relationship with his daughter, and has spoken publicly about the pain of their estrangement since her marriage to Prince Harry. He has not met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, and was absent from walking Meghan down the aisle at her wedding.
As of this reporting, Meghan markle has not publicly reached out to her family following her father’s health ordeal. Thomas Sr. remains in critical condition and is awaiting a further operation in the coming days.
