Williamstown Mourns the Passing of Teresa Tarmey, beloved Mother and Community Figure
Teresa Tarmey (née Sheil), a cherished resident of kilnalag, Williamstown, Co. Galway, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, in her 94th year. Her death marks a significant loss for the local community and a deeply personal sorrow for her extensive family. this loss is felt acutely by generations who knew her warmth and strength, and her passing prompts reflection on a life dedicated to family and faith. Funeral arrangements are underway to honor her memory and provide solace to those grieving.
Born into a large and loving family, Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Sonny Tarmey, and siblings Mary Knight, Sr. Christina Sheil, Jose Finnegan, Jim Tarmey, and Paddy Tarmey. She is survived by her eight children: Gerard (galway), Mary (Galway), Edel (Clonberne), Seamus (Claregalway), Emmett (Ballinlough), Joan (Boston, co. Clare), Carmel (Clarinbridge), and Brendan (Williamstown). She also leaves behind her brother, Pat Sheil, sister Philomena Ormsby, 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Reposing at Feeney’s Funeral Home, Williamstown (F45 RC53) on Sunday, September 7th, from 5.00 p.m., Teresa will be removed at 8.00 p.m. to St. Therese’s Church, Williamstown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 8th, at 12 noon, followed by burial in carraroe Cemetery.
The family requests that their privacy be respected at this challenging time and has asked that the house remain strictly private. In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, may be made to the Galway Palliative Care Team. Those wishing to extend their condolences are encouraged to use the online condolence section provided.
