Title: Syracuse Field Hockey Players Earn NFHCA All-Region Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Six members of ⁢the Syracuse field ​hockey team have been recognized with National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honors, the ‍organization announced Monday. Graduate student Bo van ⁢Kempen earned First Team accolades, while ‌juniors Hattie Madden and Emma Leegangers, along with freshman Aubrey‍ Turner, were ⁤named to the Second Team.Seniors Carolin Hoffmann and Sarah King received honorable mention.

The awards recognise the outstanding performances of players throughout the region and highlight Syracuse’s success during a season that saw the team reach the NCAA ⁤Tournament Second Round and ‍finish with⁣ a⁢ 14-6‌ overall record.This recognition underscores the program’s continued growth and competitiveness within the ACC and nationally.

Van Kempen,⁤ a back from Zevenaar, Netherlands, led the Orange with⁢ 23 goals, ranking fifth in‍ Division I with a⁢ 1.15 goals ⁤per game average. she also tallied seven​ assists for a total of 53 points, the fourth-most in the country. Van Kempen scored four postseason goals, including two ⁣against⁢ No. 4 Virginia (Nov. 6).

Madden, a junior forward from Lytham, England, played and started all 20 ‍games, finishing with 19 points ‍on nine goals and one assist. She scored crucial goals⁢ against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov.5) and No. 6 Liberty (Nov.14) in the final seconds of key contests.

Leegangers, a junior midfielder, started all 20 ⁢games and ‍inserted⁢ 13 corners during the season, including a season-high five against‍ Colgate (Oct. 3), while adding a goal against ⁢Fairfield.

Turner, a freshman ⁢forward from Downingtown, pennsylvania, also played and ⁣started all 20 games, ranking fourth on the team with 18 points, notching seven goals and four assists. She converted the game-winning shootout goal against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. ​14) in the First Round NCAA Tournament.

Hoffmann and King round out the honorees, recognized for their contributions to the team’s success throughout the season.
