SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Six members of the Syracuse field hockey team have been recognized with National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honors, the organization announced Monday. Graduate student Bo van Kempen earned First Team accolades, while juniors Hattie Madden and Emma Leegangers, along with freshman Aubrey Turner, were named to the Second Team.Seniors Carolin Hoffmann and Sarah King received honorable mention.
The awards recognise the outstanding performances of players throughout the region and highlight Syracuse’s success during a season that saw the team reach the NCAA Tournament Second Round and finish with a 14-6 overall record.This recognition underscores the program’s continued growth and competitiveness within the ACC and nationally.
Van Kempen, a back from Zevenaar, Netherlands, led the Orange with 23 goals, ranking fifth in Division I with a 1.15 goals per game average. she also tallied seven assists for a total of 53 points, the fourth-most in the country. Van Kempen scored four postseason goals, including two against No. 4 Virginia (Nov. 6).
Madden, a junior forward from Lytham, England, played and started all 20 games, finishing with 19 points on nine goals and one assist. She scored crucial goals against No. 6 Wake Forest (Nov.5) and No. 6 Liberty (Nov.14) in the final seconds of key contests.
Leegangers, a junior midfielder, started all 20 games and inserted 13 corners during the season, including a season-high five against Colgate (Oct. 3), while adding a goal against Fairfield.
Turner, a freshman forward from Downingtown, pennsylvania, also played and started all 20 games, ranking fourth on the team with 18 points, notching seven goals and four assists. She converted the game-winning shootout goal against No. 6 Liberty (Nov. 14) in the First Round NCAA Tournament.
Hoffmann and King round out the honorees, recognized for their contributions to the team’s success throughout the season.
