Heatwave Returns: Austria Braces for Temperatures Nearing 33°C

After a brief respite, summer isn’t over yet for Austria. Geosphere Austria forecasts a significant warm-up this week, with temperatures expected to soar, particularly in the eastern regions.

Monday: Sunny Skies with a Hint of Fog
Monday will begin with scattered patches of fog and high fog, but these are expected to clear quickly, giving way to predominantly sunny conditions across much of the country. Daily high temperatures will range from 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).
Tuesday: Sunshine and Developing Showers
Tuesday will see some fog or high fog lingering in valleys, especially on the Alpine south side, and potentially some harmless mid-level clouds in the northeast. However,sunshine will generally dominate throughout the morning. Afternoon brings the possibility of spring clouds forming over the mountains, potentially producing brief, localized showers.Winds will pick up, with maximum temperatures reaching 23 to 28°C (73 to 82°F).
Wednesday: 30°C Within Reach
Wednesday promises even warmer temperatures. Cloud fields may appear temporarily on the Alpine north side and in the north, with a chance of isolated rain. Elsewhere, the sun will prevail, with spring clouds developing mainly above the mountains.
Local warming streaks are possible along the main Alpine ridge and south of it. Winds will be light to moderate, shifting from westerly to easterly/southerly in the afternoon. Early temperatures will be between 8 to 17°C (46 to 63°F),with high maximum temperatures climbing to 25 to 30°C (77 to 86°F).
Thursday: Storms Possible, Especially in the north
Thursday will bring increasing cloud cover, particularly south of the main alpine ridge from the Silvretta to the Carnic Alps, where rain is expected, potentially heavy. Elsewhere, sunshine will be frequent, but clouds will generally thicken throughout the day. Strong thunderstorms are possible in the evening,especially in the northern Alpine foothills and in the Mühl and Waldviertel regions.
The east and southeast will remain dry and frequently enough sunny. lively to strong southerly winds, and stormy southern Föhn winds, will blow along the Alpine north side, and also in the east and south.Early temperatures will range from 9 to 18°C (48 to 64°F), with daily highs reaching 26 to 33°C (79 to 91°F). Cooler temperatures of 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F) are expected in the rainy west and southwest.
Friday: Western Showers, Eastern Sunshine
Friday will see cloud fields and occasional rain, especially in the west and southwest. During the day,the clouds will temporarily break up,but rain showers and thunderstorms will become more common. The east and southeast will remain consistently dry, with only harmless cloud patches passing through. Winds will be lively from southeast to southwest in the east, south, and mountainous regions. Early temperatures will be between 12 to 20°C (54 to 68°F).
