Marco Fu Sidelined for Two Months with Fractured Elbow
Hong Kong snooker star Marco Fu will be out of action for approximately two months after sustaining a fractured elbow, according to a report from SnookerHQ.com. the injury casts doubt on his participation in several upcoming tournaments, including the UK Championship at the end of November.
Fu recently qualified for the Northern Ireland open in Belfast, defeating Amir Sarkhosh and Jamie Jones, but the injury halts his upward momentum on the rankings list. This latest setback adds to a history of health challenges for the 46-year-old,including laser eye surgery in 2017 to treat retinal degeneration and a previous incident of double vision at the 2024 German Masters, forcing a mid-match withdrawal.
A mainstay on the professional snooker circuit for over two decades, Fu turned professional in 1998 after winning the IBSF World Amateur Championship. He quickly established himself as a top player, reaching the final of the Grand Prix in Preston shortly after.
Fu has secured three ranking titles throughout his career: the 2007 Grand Prix, defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan 9-6; the 2013 Australian Goldfields Open; and the 2016 Scottish Open, where he triumphed over Neil Robertson and John Higgins. He was also runner-up to Ding Junhui at the 2011 Masters and reached the semi-finals at the Crucible Theatre twice.more recently, he reached the final of the 2022 Hong Kong Masters, ultimately losing to O’Sullivan.
