Former K-Pop star shu addresses BJ Controversy, Reveals Financial Strain Following Gambling Issues
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – Former K-Pop idol Shu has publicly addressed a recent controversy surrounding his transition to live broadcasting as a “BJ” (broadcast jockey), following a period marked by habitual gambling. In a recent broadcast, Shu explained a widely criticized ”exposure” incident, attributing it to a misjudgment of fashion trends and a desperate need to generate income. The revelations come as Shu attempts a return to public life after facing scrutiny for his gambling habits and subsequent financial difficulties.
Shu disclosed that he borrowed 250 million won (approximately $188,000 USD) from former groupmate Lim Hyo-seong, a debt he incurred despite already facing financial hardship after leaving the entertainment industry. “My relationship with him is not good,but he called me saying he owed me 250 million won,” Shu stated,adding that he later earned and remitted 280 million won to settle the debt. The financial pressure led him to accept a position as a BJ, a role he described as a necessity to cover a deposit required by the platform.
The controversy surrounding his BJ debut stemmed from his choice of clothing during broadcasts, which drew criticism for being overly revealing. Shu defended his choices, stating, “I didn’t know that the broadcast would come out like that. I realy made it a dialog channel with fans, but I really chose the wrong clothes.I wore cutouts, which was a popular trend, but it looked wrong. I regret it so much.” Despite the backlash, Shu maintained a composed attitude, acknowledging the negative reception and wryly commenting, “Even though I didn’t receive any compliments, the article came out really bad. It’s funny to make excuses for that.”
