Shelter-in-Place Order issued for san Pedro and Wilmington Following Port Fire

San Pedro, CA – November 22, 2025 – Residents of San Pedro and Wilmington were ordered to shelter-in-place early this morning following a fire at the Port of San Pedro that resulted in a hazardous materials incident. The order, issued at 12:01 AM, impacts areas north of Point Fermin, between South Western avenue and California State Route 103.

The shelter-in-place directive stems from possibly perilous airborne particulates released by the fire aboard a container ship at the port. authorities are urging residents within the affected zones – designated LFD-1517 through LFD-1595 – to instantly seek shelter indoors, close all windows and doors, and turn off heating and air conditioning systems. This precautionary measure aims to protect public health while emergency responders assess and mitigate the situation. Residents are advised to bring all people and pets to an interior room and await further instructions.

According to information released by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the incident is currently being managed by Batt 6 within the South Bureau, and falls under the jurisdiction of Council District 15.
