Lee Seojin Shares Heartfelt Regret Following Lee Soonjae’s Passing
Seoul, South Korea – Actor Lee Seojin expressed profound sorrow and regret following the death of veteran actor Lee Soonjae, who passed away in the early morning of April 25th at the age of 91.Seojin conveyed his grief with a tearful message, stating, “I am sorry for not being able to be with you on this trip,” a sentiment reflecting a planned journey they were unable to take together.
Lee Soonjae’s death marks the end of an era in South Korean entertainment, leaving a void felt across generations of viewers and performers. The celebrated actor, known affectionately as a “national actor,” had a distinguished career spanning over six decades, impacting countless lives through his memorable roles and dedicated artistry. His passing follows a period of declining health and a hiatus from performing after appearing in the play ‘Waiting for Godot’ last year, during which he underwent rehabilitation treatment.
Born in Hoeryeong, North hamgyong Province in November 1934, Lee Soonjae began his acting career in 1956 with the play ‘Beyond the Horizon’ while studying Philosophy at Seoul National University. He subsequently became a household name through iconic roles in numerous dramas,including ‘I Want to Become Human Too’,’Samogok’,’Pungwoon’,’Ordinary People’,’Donguibogam’,’What Is Love’,’men in the bath House’,’Heo Jun’,’Sangdo’,’Who is My Love’,’Lee San’,’Mom is Angry’,’Beethoven Virus’,’The princess’ man’,’Money Flower’,and ‘Bullshit’.
A funeral service was held on April 27th at the Asan Medical Center funeral hall in Seoul, with actor Jeong Bo-seok serving as emcee and actors Kim Young-cheol and ha Ji-won delivering eulogies. Lee Soonjae will be laid to rest at Eden Paradise in Icheon.
