India’s Denmark Open Run Ends with Satwik-Chirag Semi-Final Loss
COPENHAGEN – the Indian challenge at the BWF Super 750 Denmark Open concluded Saturday with a semi-final defeat for the world-class men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The Indian duo fell too their Japanese opponents, marking their sixth semi-final loss of the season.
This defeat brings an end to India’s campaign at the tournament and represents a setback for Satwik and Chirag as they prepare for the Paris 2024 olympics, where they previously reached the semi-finals. The pair’s last title win on the BWF World Tour came at the Thailand Open in 2024.
The match saw a strong response from the Indian pair after the restart, but they where unable to overcome the Japanese duo, who secured their second victory over the Indians in six meetings. Their only previous head-to-head win occurred at the 2019 Hong Kong Open, with this being the first encounter since the 2023 Korea Open.
Earlier in the tournament, India suffered another loss when Lakshya Sen was eliminated in the quarter-finals on Friday, falling to France’s Alex Lanier, ranked No. 7 in the world.
Despite this outcome, Ayush Shetty remains the sole Indian badminton player to have clinched a BWF World Tour title this year, achieving victory at the US Open.
