San Diego Braces for Dramatic Temperature Swing: Warmth Gives Way to Potential Showers
San Diego residents are enjoying unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend, but a meaningful cool down is on the horizon, bringing a potential for showers by the end of the week. The dramatic shift will see temperatures plummet 15-25 degrees from early next week’s highs.
The warm spell will peak Sunday and Monday, with temperatures 5-15 degrees above normal. This brief period of heat offers a final taste of summer-like conditions before a return to more typical fall weather. The approaching system promises a stark contrast, impacting daily life from outdoor activities to potential fire weather concerns as conditions shift.
Sunday will dawn with patchy fog along the coast and inland, reducing visibility to under a mile in some areas. however,sunny skies are expected throughout the county,with coastal highs reaching the low 70s to low 80s. Inland neighborhoods will peak in the mid-to-upper 80s, with Ramona possibly reaching 90 degrees. Mountain areas will see temperatures in the mid-60s to low 80s, with Palomar Mountain forecast to tie a record at 75 degrees. Desert communities will experience similar conditions to the valleys, with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s.
The warmth intensifies early next week, with temperatures potentially rising another five degrees across the board.Record-breaking highs are predicted for ramona (91°), Palomar Mountain (78°), and Borrego (91°). Breezy conditions will accompany the heat on sunday and Monday, with gusts up to 30 mph in inland valleys and 35 mph in the mountains.
Veteran’s Day will bring a shift, with falling temperatures and increased cloud cover. While still above average, daytime highs will be similar to sunday’s. By Thursday, temperatures will return to average, and even dip below normal west of the mountains.A slight chance of showers is also in the forecast.
The chance of showers increases on friday and continues into Saturday, when coastal and valley temperatures will fall into the 60s, and mountain temperatures into the 50s.
