Gulls Suffer Overtime Loss to San Jose Barracuda
SAN JOSE, CA – The san Diego Gulls dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday night, despite a multi-goal performance in the third period that forced the extra frame. The loss halts a potential winning streak for the Gulls and underscores the competitive intensity of the American Hockey League’s Pacific division.
This contest showcased both resilience and vulnerability for San Diego, as they battled back from multiple one-goal deficits.The result highlights the ongoing challenge for the Gulls to consistently close out games and secure crucial points in a tightly contested conference. The team will aim to rebound quickly as they prepare for a Friday matchup against the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
Stian Solberg opened the scoring just 67 seconds into the first period, netting his first goal of the season with assists from Matthew Phillips and Tim Wase, who both extended their team-leading point totals. However, San Jose responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Early in the second period, Justin Bailey leveled the score with a wrist shot, marking his fifth goal in the last two games and bringing his season total to eight. Jan Mysak and sasha Pastujov earned assists on the play. The Barracuda regained the lead with two more goals before the end of the second frame.
Steadfast to fight back,the Gulls saw Pastujov score a powerplay goal 40 seconds into the third period,his fourth of the season and second consecutive game with a goal. Ryan Carpenter and Yegor Sidorov each registered their sixth assists of the season on the play.Later in the period, Judd Caulfield deflected a shot from Solberg to tie the game and send it to overtime, marking his third goal in the past two games. Sidorov also secured his second assist of the night.
Regrettably for San Diego, San Jose capitalized in overtime, securing the extra point with a game-winning goal.
The Gulls will travel to Acrisure Arena to face the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Friday, November 21, at 7 p.m. PT.
