Salem Lakes Village Board Reverses Course,Keeps Alan Carr as Fire Chief
SALEM LAKES,WI – Oct 16th,2025 – The salem Lakes Village Board voted unanimously last Tuesday to halt the search for a new fire chief and retain Alan Carr in his current position. The decision comes after Carr announced his intention to retire in July, prompting a village-wide search for his replacement.
The reversal was prompted by Carr’s subsequent willingness to remain chief, citing concerns about potential instability following the September resignation of Village Administrator Cassandra Hiller. While the Fire Commission initially indicated it would continue considering candidates identified by a search firm, they ultimately recommended closing the search.
Carr, a Salem Lakes resident and retired Kenosha Fire department officer, has a history with the department. He was initially appointed temporary safety coordinator by the Village Board in November 2023, following the resignation of former Fire Chief James Lejcar amid controversy surrounding department operations and business interactions. Carr served as a liaison between various entities, including neighboring departments, county dispatch, the fire department, the Fire Commission, and village management. He was then named interim chief in December 2023 and officially sworn in as chief in June 2024.
