Hotaling Earns United Soccer Coaches All-America Recognition
GENEVA, N.Y.-William Smith senior midfielder Ruth Hotaling has been named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches All-America third team, announced today. This marks the second consecutive year hotaling has received All-America honors,solidifying her place among the nation’s elite collegiate soccer players.
As 1987, 43 William Smith players have earned a combined 59 All-America awards from the United Soccer Coaches. Hotaling is the first Heron to achieve repeat All-America status as Megan Barwick ’19 (2017, 2018). The 2025 Liberty League Player of the Year was previously named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region III first team on Tuesday and earned first team All-Liberty League recognition. She also received accolades from the College Sports Communicators and the Liberty League for her academic achievements.
Hotaling started all 17 games this season, leading the Liberty League with 12 goals and 25 points. She recorded three multi-goal games, including a two-goal performance in a 2-0 victory at Skidmore, and against DeSales and Clarkson. A six-game scoring streak, sparked by a three-point outing (one goal, one assist) at RIT, saw her score three of her team-leading four game-winning goals. She was twice named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week.
The Delmar, New York, native concludes her Heron career with 77 points on 26 goals and 25 assists in 83 games. Hotaling ranks 19th on William Smith’s career points list and seventh in career assists. Her 12 assists as a junior are the third-most in a single season in program history.
Hotaling and the Herons finished the 2024 season with an 11-3-3 overall record, placing second in the Liberty league with a 7-1-1 conference record. Throughout their four years in Geneva, Hotaling and her classmates contributed to a 56-10-17 overall record and led the Herons to three NCAA tournament appearances, including a national championship game appearance in 2024. Hotaling improves from a fourth-team All-America selection as a junior to this year’s third-team honor.
