Rögle Claims Skåne Supremacy with Second Derby Win Over Malmö
Ängelholm, Sweden – Rögle BK solidified their position as Skåne’s dominant hockey force, securing a 5-3 victory over rivals Malmö Redhawks in a heated derby match. The win marks Rögle’s second consecutive derby triumph and elevates them to second place in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) standings.
The victory underscores Rögle’s current form and reignites the debate over Skåne’s top hockey team. While Malmö battled fiercely, Rögle’s consistent offensive pressure and ability to respond to setbacks proved decisive. Rögle exploded out of the gate, with leon Bristedt opening the scoring after just seven minutes. Malmö quickly answered with a goal from Joona Ikonen, but Rögle regained the lead before the first period ended thanks to Paul LaDue, going into the break up 2-1.
The second period saw a missed penalty from Malmö’s Robin Hanzl, followed by a Malmö equalizer at 2-2. However, Bristedt struck again with just five seconds remaining in the period, putting Rögle ahead 3-2.
Lubos Horky extended Rögle’s lead to 4-2 in the third period, but Malmö refused to concede, narrowing the gap with a late goal. With Malmö pressing for an equalizer, Rögle’s Calvin de Haan sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, finalizing the score at 5-3.
“We are not quite up to standard. But we find a way to win. that’s what makes a good team,” said Bristedt, who scored two goals, to TV4 Play. he added, “I like our first period, we create a damn good pressure and really wash over Malmö. Then we get a little cozy and slow down the pace. But we resist.”
Elsewhere in the SHL, Frölunda continued their league-leading form with a 2-1 victory, while HV71’s struggles deepened. in Stockholm,Djurgården overcame a mid-game deficit to defeat Örebro 5-3,fueled by goals from Emilio Pettersen,Havard Salsten,and Colby Sissons after a blazing start that saw them score twice in the opening 19 seconds.
