TERRE HAUTE,Ind. – Indiana State football players Rashad Rochelle and Nic Yatsko have been recognized by the missouri valley Football Conference (MVFC) as Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Rochelle earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Yatsko was named Newcomer of the Week.
Rochelle secured the Sycamores’ second MVFC Offensive Player of the Week award this season following a standout performance in Indiana State’s 24-12 victory over No. 4/5 South Dakota State. He opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and added four receptions for 84 yards, including touchdowns of 17 and 57 yards. This win marked Indiana state’s frist against SDSU since 2011 and their first victory over a top-five ranked opponent since 2012. Rochelle’s kickoff return was the Sycamores’ first since 2014 and the longest since the end of the 2006 season.
Yatsko, a redshirt freshman nickel back, earned Newcomer of the Week recognition after recording a career-high 14 tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery against SDSU. A key play came during an SDSU fake punt attempt, where Yatsko forced a fumble and recovered the ball in Indiana State territory.He is the third sycamore to receive Newcomer of the Week honors this season.
Indiana State will return to Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 8, for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Illinois State. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and 105.5 The Legend.
