Rinku Singh Eager to Reunite with Gautam Gambhir for Asia Cup, Yet to Discuss Strategy
Dubai, UAE – Rising Indian batter Rinku Singh is looking forward to playing under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir once more in the upcoming Asia Cup, but revealed he has not yet discussed specific plans with the team’s head coach. Singh, selected for the Asia Cup squad, expressed excitement about reuniting with Gambhir, acknowledging the significant role the former India opener played in his career progress.
Singh is expected to fulfill a finisher’s role for the team during the tournament. His inclusion bolsters his chances for selection in the 2025 T20 World Cup squad, having previously traveled with the team as a reserve during the 2024 edition where India secured victory.
The 26-year-old praised Gambhir’s consistent support and confidence-boosting approach, recalling their time together at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). “GG sir (Gautam Gambhir) has always backed me and supported me a lot. When I first met him at KKR, he gave me so much confidence,” Singh told Times of India. He specifically remembered a session focused on improving his pull shots and highlighted Gambhir’s ability to instill belief in his players. “He’ll come, talk to you, and inject confidence. He’s a man with a lot of knowledge.”
Despite the anticipation, Singh stated that he and gambhir haven’t yet had a conversation about the Asia Cup. “Not yet. Once I go to Dubai, I’ll have a big conversation with him (laughs).Till now, we haven’t spoken about anything. I’m just very excited to meet him and learn from him.His support in my career has been immense,” he added.
