Richmond Gymnastics Launches Sporting Memories Sessions to Support Wellbeing
Richmond, UK – Richmond Gymnastics is now offering specialized Sporting memories sessions in Kew, designed to benefit older adults, including those living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment.The program, running from 10 am to 12:30 pm, utilizes the power of sport to stimulate reminiscence, foster social connection, and improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
These sessions address a growing need for accessible and engaging activities for seniors. By tapping into the emotional resonance of sporting memories,the program aims to combat social isolation and promote cognitive health. Alongside facilitated reminiscence, participants will engage in ”Love to Move,” a chair-based gymnastics program developed by the British Gymnastics Foundation.
Love to Move incorporates bilaterally asymmetrical movement patterns – exercises that encourage autonomous activity on both sides of the brain. Research indicates this approach can enhance cognitive function, coordination, and independence in daily life for older adults.
The Sporting Memories sessions provide a supportive surroundings for participants to:
* Chat and build friendships.
* Enjoy regular social activity outside the home.
* Participate in exercises that support movement, memory, and daily functioning.
Richmond Gymnastics emphasizes a holistic approach, combining physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and social interaction to help older adults remain active, connected, and confident.
