Slovak Music Legend Peter Nagy Cites Cultural Understanding as Key to Potential Relocation
bratislava, Slovakia - Slovak singer Peter Nagy, 66, has revealed his thoughts on potentially relocating abroad, emphasizing the importance of cultural connection over purely recreational destinations. In a recent interview with Plus 7 dní, the popular musician discussed his extensive travels and the realities of living outside one’s home country.
Nagy, a well-known figure in the Slovak music scene, acknowledged his frequent visits to neighboring Czech Republic and Slovakia due to his strong fanbase there. However, when asked directly about moving abroad, he responded, “It’s hard to say, now I liked Poland most recently. I was in Krakow and they are so ours becuase they are Slavs.” He dismissed the appeal of “exotic destinations” focused solely on sun and sea, stating, ”If I had to choose, I would travel for understanding, so it would definitely be some Slavic state, definitely Bohemia or Poland.”
The singer also cautioned against a romanticized view of life abroad, warning of a “vacation syndrome” where initial impressions can be misleading. “When you arrive at a destination, everything seems like a fairy tale…as you have money, services are paid and everyone around you is oscillating to make you feel good,” he explained. He further highlighted the practical challenges, stating, “Many say that it would be possible to live here, and I say: Try knocking on the job office and you will see, it is not easy.”
Nagy drew on his experiences performing for Slovak expatriates in countries like the United States, Australia, and Great Britain, noting, “Living in a different country, using a different language and trying to make a name for yourself is very arduous.”
