Paris and Beyond Mark 9 Years Since 2015 Attacks with Extensive Program of Remembrance
PARIS – A extensive program of exhibitions, artistic installations, performances, and commemorations will take place across France from November 7-13, marking nine years since the coordinated terrorist attacks of November 13, 2015, and remembering the January 2015 attacks as well. The events aim to honor the victims, support survivors, and foster collective memory.
The commemorations offer a space for reflection on the enduring impact of the attacks and the ongoing process of healing.They also highlight the power of art and community in confronting trauma and reaffirming shared values. Events are designed to engage a broad audience, from intimate performances to large-scale public art installations.
Exhibitions & Archives: The Paris Archives are hosting “Je suis Paris,” an exhibition featuring hundreds of tributes collected since 2015 – children’s drawings, handwritten messages, posters, dried flowers, and objects left at memorial sites. Simultaneously, the Carnavalet museum presents a selection of anonymous tributes and urban art linked to the January and November 2015 attacks, running until december 7.
Artistic installations & Performances: On November 12, artist Léa Belooussovitch will create a tribute fresco at 19 rue Léon Frot in the 11th arrondissement. The 11th arrondissement town hall will host a performance of “Les Consolantes” at 5 p.m.,a show developed from testimonies of victims and their loved ones.
Theatrical & Musical Events: The Théâtre de la Concorde will host conferences and meetings on terrorism, memory, and resilience until November 8, culminating in a screening of Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat and Nathaniel H’Limi’s animated film “Castle Life, my childhood in Versailles,” which tells the story of a young girl rebuilding her life after losing her parents in the attacks. The screening will be preceded by discussions with the Jean-Jaurès Foundation and political scientist Hugo Micheron. On November 13 at 8 p.m., the Paris Chamber Orchestra will perform “It makes November in my soul,” a work by composer Bechara El-Khoury commissioned by the parents of a victim, alongside Beethoven’s “Creatures of Prometheus” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
National Commemorations: Beyond Paris, tributes are planned in cities nationwide. Lyon town hall will hold a ceremony at 12:30 p.m.on November 13, while Toulouse will host a gathering at the Municipal Archives on November 13 at 4 p.m.
