Pedro Almodóvar to Executive Produce Pamela Anderson & Guy Pearce in New Musical Thriller ‘Queen of the Falls‘
Los Angeles, CA – Pedro Almodóvar has signed on as an executive producer for “Queen of the Falls,” a forthcoming musical crime thriller starring Pamela Anderson and Guy Pearce. the project, directed by Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia, promises a blend of romance, vengeance, and music, described as “an explosion of love and fear, of whimsy and wonder and of violence and death.”
Attieh and Garcia, who previously won the “Someone to Watch” Self-reliant Spirit Award for thier 2014 film “H” and received a nomination at the 2019 Tribeca Film festival for “Initials S.G.” (where attieh won the Nora Ephron Prize), envision the film as a “love-on-the-run odyssey.” They stated, “At itS heart, ‘Queen of the Falls’ is a story of one woman’s survival disguised as a romance. Laced with betrayal, vengeance, murder and music, it is a tale that will take us on a journey that is equal parts love story, fever dream and tragedy; one that is haunted by pop music, cheap Americana and the ghost of romance itself.”
paul Thomas Anderson, who initiated discussions about the project with Attieh and garcia some time ago, expressed his enthusiasm for the musical elements, noting they felt like a “natural extension” given the filmmakers’ previous work. “Music has always intrigued me and though this film is clearly not a typical musical, the musical elements are inspiring and unexpected,” Anderson said.
The film’s music will be composed by Grammy and BAFTA award winner Marius De Vries (“La La Land,” “Moulin Rouge”), with choreography by Celia Rowlson Hall (“The Testament of anne Lee,” “Aftersun”).Sue Jacobs (“Promising Young Woman,” “American hustle”) will supervise the music.
Anderson also praised his co-star, Guy Pearce, stating, “Guy is someone I can’t wait to work with. he is a brilliant actor and has taken this on with full force. We are in this together. it’s been a long road, and will be a delicate continuous journey with dedicated readiness to blend the musical aspects in amongst this wild and challenging love-on-the-run style, raw and whimsical story.”
Fabien Westerhoff of Global Constellation described the film as “somthing truly original and deeply cinematic, part crime caper, part love story, that’s as intimate as it is epic.” Both Anderson and pearce are represented by CAA.
