Clashes Erupt Along Afghanistan–Pakistan Border
Fighting has broken out in multiple locations along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to security officials from both countries. The extent of casualties remains unclear, but the exchange marks a significant escalation in tensions between the neighboring nations.
The skirmishes come amid mutual accusations of aggression. The Taliban regime in Afghanistan claims to have captured three Pakistani border posts, while Pakistani security sources report destroying several Afghan border posts. These clashes follow allegations that Pakistan conducted airstrikes on the Afghan capital, Kabul, last week – accusations pakistan has not officially addressed.
The Afghan army states the attacks are retaliatory for Pakistani airstrikes. Pakistan’s Interior Ministry responded with a statement on X, asserting, “Afghanistan will receive a suitable response, as will India.” Similar cross-border violence in May resulted in dozens of fatalities within days, stemming from air strikes and shelling on both sides.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over the escalating tensions and potential consequences for regional security and stability. In a statement posted on X,the ministry urged both countries to pursue dialogue, restraint, and cooperation to de-escalate the situation. Saudi Arabia has also called for restraint from both Pakistan and Afghanistan to prevent further escalation.
