Lehigh Men’s Soccer ⁤Reaches Patriot League​ Championship with 1-0 Victory Over Boston University

BETHLEHEM,‍ PA – November 8, 2024 – No. 2 Lehigh ⁤secured a spot in the Patriot League Championship game‌ with a 1-0 shutout victory over⁣ No. 4 boston University⁤ Wednesday night. The Mountain Hawks’ defense ⁤proved impenetrable, holding off a late surge from the ​Terriers to advance to the championship final.

Lehigh’s winning goal came⁣ from a Boston University own goal in the ‍frist half, ‌giving the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 ​lead⁤ they would fiercely protect. The victory sends Lehigh ⁤to the championship game ⁣with a ⁢record of success built on strong defensive play and key individual performances.

“Tonight ‌was a good example of why he⁤ was selected,” Lehigh Head ‍Coach ‌Dean Koski said of a key player, praising his competitiveness and‍ ability to ‌create opportunities.”He’s uber competitive, can create things for ⁣himself and for⁢ others. He’s ⁤got ⁢that it factor, and ​he’s got to keep it going⁤ and we’ve got continue to support him.”

boston University pressed⁤ for an ⁣equalizer ⁤in the final 20 minutes,⁤ registering five⁤ shots,⁣ but Lehigh’s defense remained resolute.

“We bent but we didn’t break,”⁢ Koski stated. “Boston put a lot of ⁣pressure on us‍ at the end of the game, which frequently enough happens when ‌you’re ⁣protecting a lead.‍ We blocked shots, made saves ‍and got the shutout, but more importantly ⁢got the win.”

Senior Sam davis, junior Trey Sheeler, sophomore Shea Coughlin, sophomore Ryan Mundy,‌ and Robertson all‌ recorded shots for ⁢Lehigh,⁤ while Zizza‍ led​ the Mountain Hawks with four shots and one on goal.

Sophomore‌ goalkeeper Anton kinnunen was instrumental in‍ the victory, delivering a‍ spectacular performance with five saves‌ for his fourth shutout of the season.

“Anton’s really come into his own in the last few weeks,” Koski noted. ‌”I think he’s progressively gotten better and more confident. He’s done ⁢a great job of leading the team in the back and they’re doing a great job ⁢of playing for him.”

Lehigh will⁤ host rival No. 6 Lafayette⁤ in the Patriot ⁣League​ Championship Game on Saturday, ⁣November 15 at 6 p.m.‍ Tickets ​are available HERE.
