CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Utah menS golf team begins its 2024-25 season this weekend at the prestigious Williams Cup, hosted by the University of North Carolina, marking a critically important early-season test for the nationally ranked Utes.
Utah will send a team comprised of Brandon Robison, Sergio Jimenez, and Kade McDonough to compete in the 54-hole tournament, played over three days at the challenging Eagle Bridge golf Club. for McDonough,a redshirt freshman,the Williams Cup represents his collegiate debut following a successful junior career that included a top-10 finish at the Junior America’s Cup and a Montana individual state title as a freshman. The tournament offers a crucial possibility for the Utes to gauge their performance against a competitive field and establish momentum heading into the remainder of the fall season.
“Everyone is chomping at the bit to get back out on the course,” saeid head coach Clegg. “It’s good to be home and practicing, but it’s time to get back out on the road. The Williams Cup is a premier college golf tournament, and the competition will be a major test for our program.” clegg added, “The course is exceptionally challenging, and the grass there is different from Utah. We have a lot to prove, and everyone is excited for the opportunity to travel across the country to showcase who we are.”
The Williams Cup begins Sunday, October 19, with an 8:15 a.m. ET start off tee #1 and an 8:25 a.m. start off tee #10. Rounds will continue Monday, October 20, and Tuesday, October 21, with the same tee times. Last year’s champion was North Carolina, posting a 16-under 848, while David Ford of North Carolina earned medalist honors with a 10-under 206.
