NASCAR Driver Derek Kraus Escapes Fiery Crash at Darlington Raceway
DARLINGTON, SC – Derek Kraus narrowly avoided serious injury Saturday night after his No. 33 Chevrolet burst into flames during the Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway. The incident occurred with just 24 laps remaining in the 147-lap event, bringing out a red flag as safety crews responded. Kraus was able to exit the vehicle unassisted and was evaluated and released from the track’s infield care center.

According to reports, the fire originated in the engine compartment of Kraus’s car after contact with the outside wall. The blaze quickly engulfed the vehicle, prompting immediate concern from viewers and fellow competitors. Kraus,22,is in his second full-time season in the Xfinity Series,driving for Henderson Motorsports.”Thankfully, I’m okay,” Kraus said in a statement released by his team. “The car got really loose and I got into the wall. everything happened so fast, but I’m grateful for the quick response from the safety crew and for being able to walk away.”
The race resumed after a 20-minute delay, with Sheldon Creed ultimately securing the victory. Kraus was credited with a 34th-place finish.NASCAR officials will investigate the cause of the fire to determine if any further safety measures are necessary.
