morocco’s Mobile market Shifts as Orange Maroc Challenges Maroc Telecom’s Dominance
Rabat - Morocco’s telecommunications landscape is undergoing a important conversion, with Orange Maroc gaining ground on long-standing market leader Maroc Telecom. Recent data reveals a tightening race for mobile subscribers, alongside continued growth in fiber optic adoption and a slight contraction in traditional ADSL usage.
The intensifying competition impacts all Moroccan internet users, with implications for pricing, service quality, and the rollout of next-generation networks. The shift reflects a broader trend toward converged services – combining voice and data – and a growing demand for faster internet speeds. This evolution is crucial as Morocco aims to enhance digital inclusion and support its burgeoning digital economy.
As of june 2025, mobile subscriptions in Morocco totaled approximately 37.9 million, with a striking 99% bundled with both voice and data services. While Maroc Telecom remains the largest mobile operator, Orange Maroc’s market share has risen to 27.54%, bringing the company closer to possibly displacing Maroc Telecom from its top position.
The ADSL market experienced a minor decline, registering 1.55 million subscriptions at the end of June 2025, down from 1.58 million a year prior. Maroc Telecom continues to lead in ADSL, despite a slight decrease in its subscriber base.Orange Maroc saw modest gains in this segment, while inwi experienced a slight contraction. Notably, 96.89% of ADSL lines now deliver speeds exceeding 8 Mb/s, indicating improvements in service quality.
Fiber optic subscriptions, though, are surging. the number of fiber connections reached 1.2 million by the end of June 2025, representing a 6.8% quarterly increase and a 26.32% year-over-year growth.Maroc Telecom currently controls 49.24% of the fiber market, a slight decrease from 49.7% in the previous quarter.
