Minutewomen secure Eighth Shutout with Dominant 5-0⁣ Victory Over Bellarmine

Amherst, MA – The University of Massachusetts ⁤field hockey team‍ continued its impressive form, defeating Bellarmine 5-0 on Friday afternoon and earning their eighth shutout of the ‍season. Five‌ different Minutewomen found the back of the net in a commanding performance that showcased their offensive firepower and defensive solidity.

This victory moves massachusetts one conference win away from clinching at least a share of its ​first ​MAC Regular Season Championship. The Minutewomen’s dominant performance against Bellarmine ⁤- holding them to just two shots throughout the entire contest – underscores their position as a force in the ⁢conference. The win also establishes a 1-0-0 all-time record against the Knights in their ⁤first-ever ‍matchup.

The scoring began in the ⁣first quarter with ‍ Marlena McCarthy finding the net at the 7:18 mark. Cara Falconer extended the lead ⁣just 1:25 later, deflecting a pass from Fiene Jenneskens to ​make ​it 3-0. Jenneskens ⁣recorded her second consecutive game with two assists.

Kristy ‍Leonard added‌ a fourth⁤ goal early in the‌ second half, while‍ Sophie Kent tallied Massachusetts’​ second​ goal of the third quarter, pushing the score to 5-0 with 4:51 remaining.

Massachusetts dominated the game statistically, finishing with a 21-0 advantage in total shots and earning⁣ 8⁢ penalty corners. The⁢ Minutewomen had ⁢14 shots on goal.
