MIDWESTERN STATE VOLLEYBALL PREPARES FOR ROAD TRIP TO UT DALLAS, UT TYLER
DALLAS – Midwestern State volleyball (12-4, 6-0 LSC) continues its Lone Star Conference schedule this week with matches at UT Dallas and UT Tyler. The Mustangs face the Comets on Friday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Tyler for a 2 p.m. Saturday contest against the Patriots.
Midwestern State recently defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-0, recording 58 digs-more than three digs per set.Junior setter Guerrero orchestrated the offense with 31 of the 35 assists, leading the conference and ranking 10th nationally with 10.87 assists per set. MSU averages 12.87 assists per set, second in the LSC and 16th in the nation.
Isabella Dickens led the Mustangs with three block assists and eight kills against SWOSU. Midwestern State is second in the conference with 13.63 kills per set, 33rd in Division II. The team averages 38.47 attacks per set, second most in the LSC and 22nd nationally. Vinzant leads the team with 10.35 attacks per set, third in the conference.
MSU boasts the fourth-best hitting percentage in the LSC at .231, with Jaiden Wright hitting.318 (seventh in the LSC) and Dickens hitting .291 (10th in the LSC). Opponents are hitting just .164 against the Mustangs. Midwestern State delivers 1.82 service aces per set, fifth-best in the LSC, and Vinzant is fourth in the league with 0.47 aces per set.
UT Dallas (3-13, 1-5 LSC) is in its first season as an LSC member. After a 3-2 win over Cameron, the Comets have lost four straight, including three road sweeps at UT Tyler, Angelo State, and UT Permian Basin. They are 1-1 at home, with their only win against Cameron. Sophomore mella Mendoza-Flores leads UTD with a .354 hitting percentage, and junior Laura see hits .339. As a team, the Comets hit .150 while opponents hit.228.midwestern State won its only previous meeting with UT Dallas, 3-0, in 2005.
