ISTANBUL, TURKEY – Beşiktaş goalkeeper Mert Günok released a statement today addressing recent discussions surrounding his role with the club, emphasizing his commitment to the team and respect for managerial decisions.
Günok, who joined Beşiktaş four years ago, acknowledged a challenging start to the season and expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance. He highlighted his dedication to returning from an early injury sustained after his transfer and his subsequent efforts to contribute to both Beşiktaş and the national team.
“I would like to share my thoughts on a few points that have been on the agenda for the last few days and which I think cause misunderstandings,” Günok stated.
The veteran goalkeeper also addressed the recent change in captaincy, stating he welcomed the decision with maturity, recognizing it as a standard practice within the club’s structure. He affirmed his long-standing principle of respecting all technical and managerial choices.
“at no time in my career have I commented on the technical and managerial decisions taken. I respected all your decisions and will continue to do so from now on,” Günok said. “When I play, I will give my best to the field, and when I don’t play, I will support my friend who plays.”
Having previously worn the captain’s armband, Günok emphasized his commitment to upholding the standards of Beşiktaş, both on and off the field. He pledged to continue striving for performances worthy of the club.
“I had the honor of wearing Beşiktaş’s captain’s band. Every time I went on the field, I took care to act as an example from our legendary greats who captained Beşiktaş.Irrespective of the result, I acted both on and off the field in a way that befits our club and protects the interests of our club. Not once did I act unbecoming of my position.”
