WASHINGTON – Representative marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will resign from Congress, with her last day in office being January 5, 2026. Teh Georgia Republican made the proclamation in a post on social media, just days after a public dispute with President Donald Trump, who had withdrawn his support and signaled he would back a primary challenger.

Greene’s departure marks a meaningful shift in the House Republican landscape, removing a prominent and frequently enough controversial voice known for her staunch conservatism and alignment with the former president. Her decision comes amid escalating tensions with Trump, fueled by disagreements over foreign policy priorities and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The move also possibly alters the dynamics of Georgia’s 14th congressional district, setting the stage for a competitive primary and potentially impacting Republican prospects in the midterms.

“I will be resigning from office with my last day being January 5, 2026,” Greene saeid in a statement. She explained her decision by stating, “I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”

The rift between Greene and Trump reportedly widened in recent weeks as she publicly criticized his focus on foreign policy, arguing he should prioritize domestic issues. They also clashed over the release of the Justice Department’s Jeffrey epstein files, which Trump ultimately signed into law despite initial resistance.
