Borsato‘s Defense Draws Fire: Critic Claims Singer Can ‘lie Without Hindrance’
Crime journalist John van den Heuvel, a vocal critic of marco Borsato, has sharply condemned the singer’s defense strategy in the ongoing case involving allegations of sexual abuse, asserting that Borsato is effectively permitted to “lie without hindrance.” The comments come after Borsato’s recent rebuttal following years of accusations.
Van den Heuvel’s criticism centers on what he describes as “victim blaming” within Borsato’s defense, arguing it demonstrates “zero self-reflection.” He alleges borsato’s portrayal of events-suggesting a permissive environment existed-is damaging and could discourage future reporting of abuse. The case revolves around allegations of inappropriate conduct with an underage girl, which Borsato denies.
According to a report in Weekend, Van den Heuvel questioned Borsato’s attempt to attribute responsibility to a former personal assistant, stating, “Does Borsato really think that a woman who served as a kind of PA for him for years and apparently had far too free sexual morals, is responsible for his behavior towards her daughter?”
Van den Heuvel further contends that Borsato’s depiction of himself as a “white swan” amidst a morally questionable environment is misleading. He believes this narrative implies years spent in a “house full of Sodom and Gomorrah” while maintaining innocence.
The journalist also highlighted the legal position of a suspect, noting that cooperation is not legally required in securing a conviction. He emphasized that the ultimate decision rests with the judges, stating,”A lie can even be punishable. Fortunately, it is indeed not Borsato’s entourage or his fans who decide on guilt or innocence. Those are the judges, and they are not to be envied here.” Despite his strong criticism,Van den Heuvel expressed confidence that “justice will be served.”
Van den Heuvel has a well-documented history of publicly questioning Borsato’s innocence and has reportedly advised the complainant, A., on how to report the singer. the ties between Van den Heuvel and those litigating against Borsato are described as “strong” and “very big.”
