Surgeons Stunned to Find Wristwatch, Metal fragments in Man’s Stomach
Jaipur, India – Surgeons at Sawai Mansingh Hospital in Jaipur, India, were astonished after discovering a wristwatch and numerous metal fragments inside a 34-year-old man’s digestive system. The patient arrived at the hospital on October 9th, suffering from severe abdominal pain and unable to eat or drink, initially leading his family to suspect indigestion.
An X-ray and CT scan revealed the wristwatch lodged in the patient’s esophagus, with additional metal pieces – including nuts and bolts – found within his intestines. “We’ve never seen anything like this before,” a member of the surgical team told Need To Know. The unusual case required a complex, three-hour open surgery after attempts at endoscopic removal failed due to the quantity and sharp edges of the objects.
Surgeons successfully removed the items thru a small abdominal incision, with operating room footage showing the extraction of shiny, stomach-content-covered metal pieces. The patient is now stable and recovering in intensive care without complications.
The reason for the ingestion remains unknown, though medical experts suggest potential links to psychological disorders or compulsive behaviors. While this case is notably striking, doctors at the hospital note they treat dozens of patients annually who have swallowed foreign objects like metals, stones, and plastics. “Fortunately, timely surgery saved his life,” one surgeon stated.
