A winnipeg man has been charged in connection with a series of arsons that targeted businesses he was employed by, police announced Thursday. Jesse James Mulaire, 33, faces multiple counts of arson relating to fires at three establishments across the city earlier this month.
The investigation revealed Mulaire worked at two of the businesses that were deliberately set ablaze: a restaurant in the 1800 block of Pembina Highway and a business in the 1400 block of Regent Avenue West. A third fire occurred at a business in the 600 block of Empress Street. The arsons prompted a city-wide investigation and raised concerns about business security and public safety. This case highlights the potential for insider threats and the devastating impact of arson on local businesses, with investigations ongoing to determine the full extent of the damages and potential motives.
Winnipeg police began investigating after responding to a fire at the Regent Avenue West business on November 10th.Fires at the Pembina Highway restaurant and Empress Street location followed on November 12th and 13th, respectively. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, but the fires caused notable property damage.
Mulaire was arrested Wednesday and remains in custody. He is facing charges of arson with disregard for human life, arson damaging property, and attempt to commit arson. The investigation continues, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Winnipeg Police Service.
