Oklahoma City, OK – Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Lindel Fields as the new State Superintendent of Public instruction, effective instantly, following the resignation of Ryan Walters. The announcement came Thursday during a press conference at the state Capitol.
Fields, a veteran Oklahoma educator with over three decades of experience, will serve the remainder of Walters’ term. His appointment comes after Walters announced his departure last week to become CEO of the Teacher Freedom alliance, a branch of the Freedom Foundation, and officially began his new role on October 1st.
Fields most recently served as the CEO of Your Culture Coach, a company focused on leadership training and organizational culture transformation, founded in May 2021.Prior to that, he held the position of CEO and Superintendent at Tri-County Tech, a public-sector educational institution, from July 2009 to May 2021.
A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Trade and Industrial Teacher Education (1996) and Southern Nazarene University with an M.A.in Education Leadership (1999),Fields is currently based in Tulsa. His experience and background are expected to provide stability and continuity as Oklahoma navigates ongoing discussions surrounding public education.
