Lincoln Electric has launched the Velion 50kW DC fast charger, marking the industrial giant’s entry into the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure space.The portable charger is designed to rapidly replenish EV batteries, offering a charging speed competitive with many public charging stations, and targets businesses and fleet operators needing on-demand charging solutions.
While Lincoln Electric is best known for its welding and automation equipment, the company sees a growing opportunity in supporting the electrification of transportation. The Velion charger addresses a key barrier to EV adoption – range anxiety and charging accessibility – by providing a deployable, high-powered charging option for locations lacking existing infrastructure. This launch positions Lincoln Electric to capitalize on the expanding EV market and leverage its power electronics expertise in a new sector.
The 50kW charger is designed for versatility, featuring a robust, weather-resistant enclosure and compatibility with both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, covering the vast majority of EVs currently on the road.It’s intended for applications like event support, temporary installations, and supplementing existing charging networks.
