Lebanese army Outlines Phased Plan for Weapon Control South of Litani River
Beirut, Lebanon – September 2, 2025 – The Lebanese Army has developed a phased plan to exert control over exclusive weapons throughout the contry, beginning in areas south of the Litani River, according to reports from the National Media Agency. The initiative aims to uphold civil peace and internal stability, adhering to stipulations within the existing ceasefire agreement.
The plan, detailed by retired Brigadier General George nader, is designed for gradual implementation, progressing geographically and chronologically. It envisions a staged rollout, initially focusing on the region south of the Litani before expanding to encompass all lebanese territory. This approach is intended to minimize disruption and maintain order during the process. The success of the plan hinges on prior coordination with Hezbollah and relies on existing intelligence regarding the locations of illicit weaponry.
Nader indicated that the army anticipates securing prior approval from Hezbollah to facilitate cooperation, leveraging intelligence data pinpointing weapon caches to streamline implementation. He suggests this pre-existing knowledge will make the submission of the plan “easy and easy.” The phased approach and reliance on intelligence are key components of the army’s strategy to manage the sensitive issue of unauthorized arms within Lebanon.
