New VA Hospital Officially Opens‌ in ⁤Tulsa,⁣ Promising Expanded Care for ⁢Veterans

TULSA, ​OK – November 12, 2024 – Oklahoma ⁤veterans will soon have access​ to expanded healthcare services‌ with the official transfer of a new Department of ‍Veterans Affairs hospital in⁣ Tulsa. Celebrated by state and federal leaders today, the facility marks a significant step forward in‌ providing accessible,‌ coordinated ​medical care for those who served.

The new VA hospital, located across the street from the Oklahoma State‍ University (OSU) Medical Center, is poised to reduce⁢ wait times, broaden ⁤access to specialized care, and foster stronger collaboration⁢ between ⁣VA ⁢and OSU medical ​staff. Beyond immediate ‍improvements to veteran healthcare, the ​hospital‌ is a cornerstone of⁢ the burgeoning OSU Academic Medical​ District, a‌ $515 million project projected to generate 5,000 construction jobs and⁣ 2,000 permanent positions.

“This facility will mean ‌shorter‍ wait ‍times, expanding⁢ access to specialists, ‍better coordination with OSU medical ​staff and the students who are⁣ going to take care ⁢of veterans later in their careers,” ‍stated Under Secretary for Health‌ Shereef Elnahal. “This is about accessibility, connection, and dignity ‌for veterans ⁤and⁤ their families.”

Oklahoma Governor ‍Kevin Stitt⁣ highlighted the ‌broader impact of⁢ the hospital alongside the ⁤forthcoming Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center, slated to open in 2026. “what’s happening here is bigger than just a hospital,” Stitt said.”We’re‍ standing⁣ in the heart ⁤of a new academic medical district that’s really transforming⁤ our great city of​ Tulsa.” ⁣He further emphasized the economic benefits, calling it “a moment of gratitude and momentum” for Tulsa⁣ and Oklahoma’s future in healthcare innovation and ⁣economic development.

The opening​ of the VA hospital ⁣fulfills a vision⁤ championed ⁤by former Senator Jim Inhofe, whose‍ legacy of‍ service to the state was⁢ acknowledged during the ceremony. The facility’s proximity to the OSU Center for Health Sciences​ teaching hospital will‍ also provide valuable clinical training opportunities for ‍future healthcare professionals specializing in veterans’ care.
