Elon’s Krstic Secures Third Place at ITA Carolina Regionals
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Elon university men’s tennis player Veljko Krstic finished third in the singles competition at the ITA Carolina Regionals, earning a walkover victory against Wake Forest’s Kacper Szymkowiak on Sunday. The result caps a strong showing for Krstic, who reached the semifinals – the furthest an Elon player has advanced at the tournament since 2013.
Krstic, currently ranked No. 64 nationally in the ITA singles rankings,navigated a challenging draw to reach the semifinals,securing four wins throughout the week against opponents from North Carolina,Charlotte,Clemson,and South Carolina. Along the way, he defeated two players ranked within the top 65 nationally. In the semifinal match, Krstic battled Wake forest’s Luca Pow, winning the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (5) before falling in the subsequent sets 2-6, 4-6.
The ITA Carolina Regionals performance boosts Krstic’s fall record to eight victories,including a seven-match winning streak prior to the semifinal loss. Elon concluded the tournament wiht a total of 11 wins – eight in singles play and three in doubles.
