Theater Konstanz will launch its 2025/26 season with two world premieres: a new open-air production of Bertolt Brecht‘s ”Die dreigroschenoper” at Konstanz’s Münsterplatz and “Wie jede andere hier,” a play based on the personal recollections of Konstanz Jewish resident Margot Spiegel.
The open-air staging of Brecht’s classic, known as “The Threepenny Opera,” promises a spectacle combining music, social commentary, and a striking backdrop. Simultaneously, the theater will present “Wie jede andere hier” - adapted by Swiss author Viola Rohner from Spiegel’s documented memories – aimed at audiences aged 14 and up. The play explores Spiegel’s experiences growing up in Konstanz under National Socialism, her 1937 flight too America, and the fate of her family, who were deported and murdered in Gurs and Auschwitz.
“Wie jede andere hier” delves into questions of exclusion, the impact of forced emigration, and the enduring trauma of loss, offering a poignant exploration of a local story with universal resonance. The Konstanz Bertolt Brecht Theater is also planning special performances geared toward children, students, and families throughout the season.
