The New Orleans Saints are bringing in veteran kicker Justin Tucker for a tryout, NFL Media reports. The workout will also include kicker Cade York.
This possibility for Tucker comes after a 10-game suspension stemming from an NFL investigation into allegations of misconduct during massage therapy sessions, as initially reported by the Baltimore Banner earlier this year. Tucker, released by the Ravens in May, accepted the suspension without a formal hearing or appeal. Despite a 2024 season with Baltimore were he achieved a 73.3-percent field-goal conversion rate, and the off-field concerns, the Saints are evaluating Tucker as a potential solution to their kicking struggles.
Currently, Saints kicker Blake Grupe has missed eight of 26 field goal attempts this season, including two crucial misses - from 38 and 47 yards – during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Tucker, a five-time first-team All-Pro, previously faced the Saints in 2017, when he missed his first career extra point in the final seconds of a game, resulting in a one-point loss for the Ravens. The tryout suggests the Saints are seriously considering options to improve their special teams performance as they navigate the remainder of the season.
