Juazeiro do Norte Launches City-Wide effort to combat Rising Arbovirus Threat

Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará – November 21, 2025 – The Juazeiro do Norte Health Department initiated a comprehensive Mobilization Week today, November 24th, to raise awareness and prevent the spread of arboviruses-diseases transmitted by mosquito vectors-across the municipality. The campaign aims to educate residents on preventative measures and reduce the incidence of dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and other related illnesses.

Arboviruses pose a significant public health challenge, notably during the rainy season when mosquito populations surge. These diseases can cause debilitating symptoms, including high fever, severe joint pain, and rash, and in certain specific cases, can lead to complications like neurological disorders or even maternal-fetal complications, including miscarriage or infant mortality. The Health department’s proactive initiative seeks to mitigate these risks thru widespread community engagement and education.

The Mobilization Week schedule includes targeted outreach at key locations throughout the city. On Monday, November 24th, teams will distribute informational pamphlets and conduct lectures at Escola Tabelião Expedito Pereira and CEI Dom Antônio Campelo de Aragão. Tuesday, November 25th, will see similar activities at EEF JOSÉ DE ARAÚJO (Sítio São Gonçalo).

Wednesday,November 26th,will focus on high-traffic public spaces, with pamphlet distribution planned for Padre Cícero Square and Pirajá Market. Outreach will continue on Friday, November 28th, near Cariri Shopping and Restaurante Popular, and conclude on Saturday, November 29th, at Francisca Letícia School in the São José neighborhood, as part of the “City Hall in Your Neighborhood” program. All activities will center around distributing informational materials to the public.
