Duluth, MN – A special music and art tour featuring artist and musician Annie Humphrey and arts organizer Shanai Matteson, through their collective “Fire in the Village,” will honor the memory of John Trudell wiht performances throughout Minnesota in November. The tour aims to create spaces for freedom and experimentation,reflecting a need identified within communities for consistent support and creative outlets.
Humphrey, a leech Lake Reservation native raised with a foundation in art and survival skills, leads the vision alongside Matteson, an arts organizer from rural Aitkin County and founder of “Fire In The Village.” Matteson has dedicated her time to community events, complementing Humphrey’s musical artistry.
“They know that community isn’t built onyl in one-time events, but in constant presence and support to the people who need a space to be free and experimental,” according to information released by Fire in the Village. The Fall 2025 Music and art Tour is intended as an introduction to the possibilities for those seeking such an environment.
Tour dates include: November 1st at Sampaguita in Aitkin,MN; November 6th at Zietgeist Theater in Duluth,MN; November 7th at Old Central School in Grand Rapids,MN (suggested donation of $5-$20,no one turned away); November 8th at Voyagers Expeditionary High School at Headwaters Music and Arts in Bemidji,MN (suggested donation of $5-$20); and a closing show on November 15th at The Cedar Cultural Centre in Minneapolis,MN (tickets $15 in advance,$18 day of show).
Fire in the Village also hosts weekly events every Wednesday at their homeroom 203 location in grand Rapids (10 NW 5th St.),including youth art spaces,movie viewings - currently featuring Thunder Heart – block printing,writing circles,and karaoke.
