Jeff Bezos is re-entering the operational side of business with a new, undisclosed startup focused on applying artificial intelligence to manufacturing. The venture, known as Project Prometheus, aims to revolutionize production processes in critical sectors including computer technology, automotive, and aerospace by developing AI systems that learn from the physical world – a departure from conventional chatbot-style AI.
Leading the company alongside bezos is Vic Bajaj, a physicist and chemist with prior experience as head of experimentation at Google X and founder of ForeSite Labs. Project Prometheus has already assembled a team of approximately 100 employees, drawing talent from leading AI firms such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. The startup maintains offices in San Francisco, London, and Zurich. The initiative is also anticipated to bolster Bezos’s space exploration company, Blue Origin, following the successful first landing of its New Glenn rocket last week. This milestone positions Blue Origin to compete more directly with Elon Musk’s SpaceX in the pursuit of lunar and Martian missions.
