Guadeloupe Football League President Sentenced in Misappropriation Case
Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe – Jean Dartron, president of the Guadeloupe football league and vice-president of the Department of Guadeloupe, has been sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence and a €15,000 fine for illegal interest and breach of trust. The ruling, delivered by the Pointe-à-Pitre criminal court on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, also includes a five-year ineligibility period, barring him from holding public office.
The case stemmed from actions between 2021 and 2024, where Dartron allegedly leveraged his position as vice-president of the Department’s Sports Commission to secure subsidies for the football league, effectively acting as both judge and party in the process.Prosecutors presented evidence that approximately €199,000 of these funds were used for personal expenses, including €9,000 spent on plane and train tickets for a family trip.
While the public prosecutor had requested an 18-month suspended sentence, a €20,000 fine, and a five-year ineligibility sentence with immediate effect, the court ultimately issued a lesser penalty. Dartron has 10 days to appeal the decision. The trial initially took place on June 17th, focusing on the misuse of public funds and the conflict of interest inherent in Dartron’s dual roles.
