WWE Hall of Famer John “Bradshaw” Layfield is publicly advocating for a WrestleMania showdown between Roman reigns and The Rock, despite the match not materializing at WrestleMania 40. JBL expressed his desire for the highly anticipated bout to occur at next year’s event in Las Vegas during a recent episode of his podcast, “Something To Wrestle.”
The potential match was previously considered for WrestleMania 40, but WWE ultimately chose to have Roman Reigns defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes following significant fan support for Rhodes’ storyline. While The Rock did appear at WrestleMania 40, teaming with Reigns to face Rhodes and Seth Rollins-pinning Rhodes in the process to set the stipulation for the Bloodline Rules match-JBL believes the dream match remains viable and vital.
“People have been wanting that forever,” JBL said. “It’s not like it’s a finite window there, but The Rock is not young,so he needs to do it.He may have another five or ten years of doing stuff.he’s in incredible shape. He still looks better than all of us. He looks better now than I did at my peak. I’m not going to say anything bad; he is older, though. I think he needs to get it done, and I think this is the perfect opportunity to do it.”
JBL highlighted the importance of record-breaking achievements for top-tier performers like Reigns and The Rock. “They want to break a record and Rock’s all about breaking records. So is Roman, incidentally speaking. That’s important to these guys. It was important to me.It’s important to anybody who’s on top. You want to say,’Hey,I did this. I set the attendance record there. I set the WrestleMania record.’ That’s critically important to people, so I hope they do.”
Following WrestleMania 40, Reigns and The Rock reaffirmed their alliance on the Netflix premiere of “WWE Raw,” with The Rock placing the Ula Fala around Reigns’ neck.If you use any of the quotes in this article, please credit “Something To Wrestle” with a h/t to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
