Raiders trade Receiver Jakobi Meyers to Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired wide receiver Jakobi Meyers from the Las Vegas Raiders, multiple reports confirmed Tuesday. The Raiders will receive a fourth- and sixth-round draft pick in return for Meyers and the remainder of his contract.
The trade addresses an immediate need for the Jaguars following a season-ending knee injury to rookie Travis Hunter, while also fulfilling Meyers’ expressed desire for a change of scenery. Meyers, who signed with the Raiders in 2023 after four seasons with the new England Patriots, had publicly requested a trade after contract extension talks stalled. The move provides Jacksonville with a proven receiving threat and the Raiders with draft capital as they navigate the remainder of the season.
Meyers achieved his frist 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024, finishing with 1,027 yards. This season, prior to the trade, he recorded 33 receptions for 352 yards across seven games. In early September, Meyers revealed he had asked the Raiders for a contract extension, a request the team denied. He reiterated his desire to be traded in October.
Several other teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills, reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Meyers. The Jaguars had a recent prospect to evaluate him firsthand during their game against the Raiders on Sunday, where he had four catches for 23 yards in 57 snaps.
Meyers is currently under contract through the 2025 season with a base salary of $10.5 million for the remainder of the year. His future in Jacksonville remains to be seen, with the possibility of a contract extension or allowing him to reach free agency in March. The Jaguars’ receiving corps now includes Brian Thomas, Jr., Dyami Brown, Parker Washington, and Tim Patrick, alongside the newly acquired Meyers.
