Jackson BrowneS Son, Ethan Browne, dies at 52
Ethan Browne, son of musician Jackson Browne adn model Phyllis Major, has died, his family announced november 25, 2025. He was 52. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Browne followed a diverse path, working as a model, actor, and musician. His early life was marked by tragedy; his mother died by suicide when he was onyl two years old, leaving Jackson Browne to raise him as a single father while navigating his own burgeoning music career.
Ethan reportedly modeled for designers including Isaac Mizrahi and appeared in the 1995 film Hackers,starring Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller,as well as the 2004 Kate Hudson movie Raising Helen and the TV series Birds of Prey.
He also pursued music, forming the duo Alain Zane with Cat Colbert, daughter of bassist Charles Colbert, who played with Harry Belafonte. Alain Zane released thier debut album, Right before Your Eyes, in 2022.
Born november 2, 1973, Ethan appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with his father in 1974, when he was six months old. Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major were married for only four months, from December 1975 to March 1976.
in a 2021 interview, Jackson browne reflected on the challenges of balancing fatherhood and a music career.”I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said. ”And I looked at it like this, if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll no it, and just do that. But life’s not like that and you don’t get a notice in the mail saying you’re blowing it as a parent…The mistakes I’ve made as a parent are still with me.”
Jackson Browne also has a son, Ryan, with ex-wife Lynne Sweeney. The eight-time Grammy nominee is a member of both the Rock & Roll hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The family has requested privacy during this tough time.
